Ms. Hayes is a graduate of Florida State University College of Law, graduating in the top 5% of her class. She was highly involved in the Florida State University Law Review, serving as Associate Articles Editor and Social Chair. Ms. Hayes studied International Law at Oxford University in England. Before attending law school, Ms. Hayes graduated with a B.A. from the University of Washington. Raised in the Pacific Northwest, Ms. Hayes comes from a background closely tied to agriculture and farming, which gives her a unique perspective and qualification to handle financial distress matters specific to family farmers and fisherman, including chapter 12 bankruptcy, PACA litigation, and bankruptcy alternatives for family farmers. While in law school, Ms. Hayes was inducted into the Order of the Coif, an honorary scholastic society that recognizes excellence in legal education.
Prior to commencing her practice, Ms. Hayes served as a Term Law Clerk to the Honorable J. Rich Leonard for the United States Bankruptcy Courts, Eastern District of North Carolina. In this role, she logged countless hours in the courtroom, observed motions practice, honed her legal research and writing skills, and gained a unique perspective on the interworkings of bankruptcy court.Since her clerkship, Ms. Hayes has focused her practice on the areas of bankruptcy and creditor’s rights, and particularly on reorganization of businesses, individuals, and family farms under chapter 11 and 12 of the Bankruptcy Code. In addition to her representation of debtors and creditors in bankruptcy court, Ms. Hayes also assists clients with other matters related to financial distress, such as debt management, credit repair, defense of collection actions, collection actions and out of court workouts, as well as general business litigation and probate representation.
Ms. Hayes is active in various professional and community organizations, including active membership in Leadership Florida, which has led to mentoring youths aging out of the foster care system. She has also assisted domestic violence victims with family law and social issues and served as a Volunteer Income Tax Preparer for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA).
