87 year old father want to remarry

My 87 year old father wants to

remarry. He promised to keep all

finances separate with a pre-nup.

What about nursing home expense?

If his new wife enters a nursing

home and she exhausts her money

supply, could nursing home expenses

deplete our inheritance too? Would

Title 19 ''Kick in'' for her care or

because they are married, go into

my father's money? Do you know

any good estate attorneys in Iowa?

Re: 87 year old father want to remarry

Your concerns are reasonable. Careful estate planning with your dad would eliminate these risks. I don't know any in IOWA, but you can get the planning done by a California attorney. I do estate planning for people all the time out of California. The requirement is that you contact a California attorney to perform services in California. That they are performed with a mind to legal issues in another state doesn't matter. In otherwords, a lawyer in a state is not precluded from practicing considering the laws of another state. In fact, if the laws of another state effect the client's interest, the lawyer must consider the other jurisdiction's laws.
