i was born in florida. had legal name change in texas 1995. recently requested birth certificate from florida. florida refused to issue certificate until i pay $343.00 to petition florida to domesticate foreign name judgement. said certificate could not be amended. texas county clerks office said they never heard of this. how can i get my birth certificate as is without paying such a high price. i am on social security disability and this is unaffordable but i need my birth certificate. can you please advise me.

Re: birtth certificate

I think the problem is that your Florida birth certificate is now wrong and needs to be amended, so Florida is refusing to issue you a wrong birth certificate. To fix your Florida birth certificate, you have to file a lawsuit in Florida (a Petition to Domesticate the Texas Judgment). The Florida clerk is not allowed to fix your birth certificate based on the order of a Texas judge, they have to have an order from a Florida judge. The Florida lawsuit will cause a Florida judge to issue an order to the Florida clerk based on the Texas judge's order.

The $343 is not a just a fee to the clerk, it's the filing fee for your lawsuit.
