Fair use is a gray area these days. i think there is an admission that copying once for a friend is not going to be tracked down and litigated... on the other hand, reproduction outside of the rules IS a violation of the copyright.
The question you have to ask is "is the reason I'm giving this to my friend, so she won't have to BUY it?" IF so, it's probably not OK.
Will you get caught? That's entirely another question.
