corporal punishment

I was accused of corporal punishment but never charged and the case was closed by the DOE. I was given an unsatisfactory rating for the year based on this. Can I be confident that the ''U'' rating will be reversed and the NYC Chancellor will not be able to intervene and make the ''U'' rating stick? I have been assigned a UFT Advocate for the hearing.

Re: corporal punishment

As you can imagine this is a serious matter. A "u" rating can be used to deny you tenure, and your ultimate dismissal from the faculty.

once you are dismissed from one school, no other school will hire you. In effect you will be blackballed from being a teacher. Why would one school hire you if another school lets you go for cause.

Your union should stick up for you, and they have assigned a UFT Advovate.

The UFT Advocate walks a fine line and will try to satisfy both sides.

Your own lawyer only has to satisfy you. He/She will go the extra length, and has the clout of the court to back him up.

Therefore you should get your own lawyer. If you don't you might regret it for the rest of your life.

I can probably tell you a hundred stories of similar situations where the individual did not have a lawyer and had a lifetime to regret it.
