Divorce

I recently moved to Rhode Island from Missouri and i wanted to know how long i have to wait till i can file in RI. I have been here since the beginning of Dec. and am not sure how long it take to be a resident.

To file for divorce in Rhode Island you must be a resident and continuously domiciled inhabitant for the state for at least the one year immediately preceding the date on which you file your complaint for divorce.

You may also file for divorce if your spouse has been a resident and continuously domiciled inhabitant for the state for at least the one year immediately preceding the date on which you file your complaint for divorce.
