falsely accused of shoplifting

i work for a large agency that assists the disabled community.i was assisting a consumer with shopping at a major grocery store.i felt ill while shopping, due to my medical condition CROHN'S DISEASE.i went outside to get fresh air,but was stopped by a loss prevention officer,a security guard, and four store employees.i was asked to go into a office.i stated that i had did nothing.he insisted.i was detained, searched, humiliated, and insulted.after i was searched,i was told that i was welcome back in the store.i was very upset.i had to continue shopping as people pointed, whispered, and staired.i asked to speak to the store manager.he apologized and stated that i looked'' suspicious'' and that we were looking at''expensive meat''.i asked him if my appearance implied that i couldn't afford ''expensive meat''..the executive director of my agency was upset, and called this manager.after speaking to the manager,my executive director advised me to seek legal help.i completed an incident report two weeks ago, with no response.do i have a case?

Re: falsely accused of shoplifting

You may have a basis for a false arrest claim. The problem may be in establishing your damages. While you have every right to have been humiliated, the detention was not very long and this will minimize the value of the case. You can certainly discuss this with as many civil rights attorneys as you can, in your area.
