help

can a doctors office sell your chart to a collection agency in order to collect a past due balance?

Public Health Law requires that a signed HIPPA authorization be provided by a patient before a provider can release medical records to anyone. If you signed such a release, the chart could be reproduced and sent out. It is more likely your unpaid hospital bill was sent to the collection agency, not the chart. Best, M. E. Zuller
