My maiden name was added as a middle name on my certificate of naturalization when I became a U.S. citizen years ago. I recently found out that I had to go to the Social Security Office to change my status. When I did, is when they brought to my attention that my legal name now includes my maiden name. I'm not sure what I should do next. I have all my legal documents withouth my maiden name. I have used a first, middle and husband's last name for years, but my certificate shows my first and middle name as first name, my maiden name as middle name and my husband's last as last name. Please help I need to start job hunting, and figured this up as soon as possible.

First of all, you can use whatever name you wish in the United States on the condition it is not for the purpose of fraud, okay! Alright, so who says you need to use your middle name? To change your name legally, you go to a lawyer and get your name changed to whatever you want. If you have a marriage certificate, that is evidence that your last name, if you chose to use it, is your husband's last name. For that, you can simply write to all those who would have an interest, send a copy of your marriage certificate, and tell them you want documents changed to reflect your married name. To change your citizenship certificate will be a real pain. You can file a request to change your name on your certificate and pay the fee.
