Leasing charges

The apartment complex that i moved out of about a month ago is not only refusing to give me back my security deposit, but they are also attempting to charging me several hundred dollars more (almost double what the original charges were) for new carpet and paint. Is this at all legal?

Re: Leasing charges

Yes it is legal provided the landlord followed the proper procedure for notifying you of the intent to keep your deposit and charge you the additional amount. Also depending on the language of your lease and the amount of damage to the property.
