My husband of 10yrs has decided he does not want to be married anymore, has given notice on his fulltime job and will be
moving back to Vermont to live with his parents. Since August, he has spent very little time with us after he gets off from
work and stays out with friends. He may be transferring his part-time WalMart job to a WalMart in Vermont. He will have no job that I know of when he goes to Vermont. What can I do, being an unemployed fulltime college student ( attending on grants,
scholarships and student loans with a schedule that allows me to be home when my son is home from school), to ensure
financial support for our "legally blind and challenged" son? My husband has the opinion that he is not legally obligated to pay
anything since he will no longer be living in our home
in Massachusetts. I do not have the financial means to pay an attorney and am at my wits end. Please give me some guidance.
Is this not considered "abandonment?"
Your husband will be required to pay child support and the fact he moves out is irrelevant. Moreover, his wages will be garnished by the MDOR in Vermont from Wal-Mart.
I suggest you contact either the Mass Bar Association or your county bar association which runs programs for people who need legal help and can't afford attorneys or will refer you to such a program.
