Renting a patent

Is there a such thing as renting a patent or is that the same as licensing? And can you license to one company for x amount of years and then another company for x amount of years?

Re: Renting a patent

The proper term is licensing. If you are the patent owner you may license the patent for however long to however many of people you wish. Generally, if someone is going to license it from you they would be willing to pay you more money if yu gave them exclusive rights.
