someone gave me a ruling once whre it said that a contractor is no repsonsible for the engineering of a project that has an engineer on it. in other words im an electrical contractor and sometimes when a job gets screwed up they say that we are responsible for the deisgn, when they have a liscensed engineer of record. the ruling said that the contractor would not be responsible.

Re: responsibility of engineer

An Engineer draws up plans and specifications for the electrical work to be done on a property. It is the electrical contractor who does the work pursuant to the specifications.

If the electrical specifications are wrong, then the engineer is liable. If you did not perform the work pursuant to the specifications than you are wrong and responsible.

If there are no specifications, and you undertake the work without them, then you are responsible.
