Security Deposit Receipts
Last year we moved out from a rental house. The housing agency showed us the bill but they never showed us the receipts for the charges. How can we get the house agency to show us the
receipts? We kept calling them for almost a year now and all they do is promise but no action. What can we do?
Re: Security Deposit Receipts
Civil Code, section 1950.5 requires that the security deposit statement provide you with either the bills or the estimates for all repairs that exceed ordinary wear and tear. Send them a letter, certified mail/return receipt requested, demanding copies of the bills, etc. for the alleged repairs. Tell them that if they don't provide same within 15 days that you'll file a small claims action for the return of your security deposit.
Read the code section cited before sending the letter so you know what it says.
