Hello I have a situation where my co-tenant has abandoned the apartment without paying the rent for two months. I have been providing him with checks for my half of the rent and he has been paying it up to about two months ago. Now he has taken off to North Carolina with all of his stuff while I was away at work and has failed to pay the past two months rent. He came into my room and took my check book which I immediately canceled but he has already cashed the rent checks I gave him. Finally he failed to retrieve the copies of his ID, birth certificate and social security card so I can locate his new address. I also have his bank name and account number. Can I sue him accross state lines and if not what can I do to retrieve my funds so I can pay the leasing office which is currently requesting the missing rent payments?
