I received a subpoena for a case taking place two counties away frome me. Are there any guidelines in Florida against that? I called the state attorney who sent me the subpoena and he is not willing to release me.

There are lots of guidelines. One of the most important is that if you are not released from the subpoena, then you must appear. If you don't appear, you could either be held in contempt if the prosecutor chooses to pursue that, or if you don't show, then it is up to the prosecutor to decide if they wish to pursue contempt. You are entitled to mileage so make sure you claim that.
