Im going through a divorce and I have custody of the kids right now. I have a boyfriend who has to register as a sex offender because he has an indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 on his record from eleven years ago. My husbands and my kids LP lawyer say I cant talk to or have anything to do with him because he is a registerd sex offender. He was jumped by the other kid that was 16, my boyfreind was 23 at the time. The other kid had him in a head lock and the only way to get out of it was to grab him in the balls. I looked into this and he is telling the truth. Can they tell me that I cant have anything to do him even if he is not a threat or danger to me kids, and can the kids be taken away from me if I do keep seeing him? I have papers from the boarde that state what he did and why he needs to regester and they even said that he is not a threat to anyone.

With this issue out there, you need a lawyer to represent you in your divorce. Obviously, your boyfriend was found guilty either by a jury or judge alone without a jury of the indecent A&B, and the 'self-defense' argument did not hold up in court or he would not have been convicted. The probate and family court will decide what is in the best interests of the children.
