Check with Legal Aid of Northwest Texas or the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program sponsored by the Dallas Bar Association. That is really the only two sources of free attorneys.

There are some organizations that will pay your legal bills for you, but they are few and far between.

There are two non-free alternatives:

1. Texas Legal Services Center: They will put you in contact with a local attorney who will handle your case at a significant discount.

2. Unbundled Legal Services: If you and your spouse are in agreement with all the terms of the divorce or believe that with a little help from an attorney who can answer questions you would be able to agree, you can hire a firm that will just draft paperwork, help you reach agreement, and write the fnial orders. My firm does that kind of work and the charges are a lot less than full representation (which we also do).

You are smart to be looking for legal help. About 20% of my firm's business is folks having to pay us to fix up serious flaws in paperwork they did themselves that has come back to haunt them a few years after the divorce. That is a very expensive (financially and mentally) process and can be prevented by getting it right the first time, so, again, you're on the right track.

Good luck!!
