Adam Horowitz is a nationally acclaimed attorney for survivors of sexual abuse and assault. He is known among his peers as an aggressive and passionate advocate. His practice is based in Florida but he handles cases throughout the country.
Adam Horowitz has been at the forefront of Catholic clergy abuse scandal litigating dozens of priest molestation cases against Catholic Diocese throughout the country. His work resulted in countless predators being exposed and “confidential” church documents being exposed. Moreover, he achieved victories on critical battles including the statute of limitations and First Amendment in these cases. At the same time, Adam has also represented abuse survivors across the United States in litigation against other religious institutions, schools, daycares, national spa chains, youth organizations, Boy Scouts, foster care homes, cruise ships, apartment complexes, summer camps, and celebrities.
In 2018, Adam Horowitz obtained a landmark jury verdict of over 70 million dollars on behalf of a young woman who was raped by a co-worker on a luxury yacht. In 2009, he was named South Florida’s Most Effective Lawyer in the category of personal injury by the Daily Business Review for his groundbreaking work in the area of sexual abuse litigation. Adam prevailed in a federal court trial on behalf of a young Native American woman who was raped by a U.S. Army recruiter. In that case, Elk v. United States, 87 Fed. Cl. 70 (2009), Adam established a new precedent for Native Americans by using the “Bad Man Clause” of the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868 to recover pain and suffering damages for the first time in the Treaty’s 150 year existence.
Adam has made countless television appearances and has been quoted extensively on the subject of sexual abuse and exploitation in various media outlets, including the New York Times, Washington Post, Denver Post, Miami Herald, Orlando Sentinel, Palm Beach Post, Jacksonville Times-Union, Pueblo Chieftain, and San Antonio Express-News.
Adam is admitted to the Florida Bar (2000); U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida (2001); U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida (2001); U.S. Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit (2004); U.S. Tax Court (2005); U.S. Court of Federal Claims (2006); U.S. District Court, District of Colorado (2009); U.S. Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit (2009). He has been admitted pro hac vice in many states, including Colorado, Hawaii, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington D.C.
Adam received his Juris Doctorate with honors from the University of Miami School of Law in 2000. During law school, Adam was the articles editor of the University of Miami Law Review and served on the Moot Court Board. Adam received his Bachelor of Arts with honors from the University of Miami in 1996. He is a native of Lido Beach, New York.
