Amy grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida and graduated with high honors from the University of Florida College of Law in 1998. During her time as a student, she served as a notes and comments editor on the University of Florida Law Review. Prior to joining Older Lundy Alvarez & Koch, Amy worked at Barnett Bolt following graduation from law school and became a partner in the firm’s litigation department.
Amy has experience litigating various types of business disputes, including contract, shareholder, and partnership disputes, as well as real estate, construction, and insurance coverage cases. Amy has successfully prosecuted and defended appeals and has argued before the United States Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the Florida Second District Court of Appeals. Amy also has extensive experience with creditors’ rights issues, including commercial foreclosures, navigating bankruptcies, and advising clients on various collection methods and procedures.
In addition, Amy devotes a portion of her practice to employment law, not only litigating employment disputes, including EEOC administrative claims, but also advising employers on avoiding such claims before a termination or dispute occurs. Amy also litigates, drafts and advises clients on non-competition agreements.
Amy embraces the firm’s philosophy of seeking to resolve disputes in the most efficient manner possible, with an emphasis on achieving the desired results with the least amount of expense and upset to the clients’ business. Amy seeks to understand her clients’ businesses and advise each client of all available options, including dispute resolution opportunities, always keeping her clients’ best interest at the forefront of every case.
Amy works closely with the firm’s estate planning attorneys in complex probate, trust and guardianship disputes, representing the beneficiaries or the fiduciaries, and advising fiduciaries who face potential disputes. A key factor in Amy’s approach to litigating will and trust contests is her recognition that understanding and managing family dynamics is important to achieving a resolution.
Amy is also a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Court mediator. Amy’s experience as a litigator has resulted in her involvement in a broad range of commercial business disputes and probate and trust matters. This litigation experience and knowledge of the law provides Amy with the tools necessary to successfully mediate litigation matters involving commercial, probate and trust disputes. Amy understands that the alternative dispute resolution process is often the best way, both emotionally and financially, to resolve a case for parties involved in litigation.
Amy lives in Seminole Heights with her husband. Amy also volunteers as a pro-bono attorney for children in the Hillsborough county foster care system through the charitable organization, Crossroads for Kids.
