Following a successful career in medical sales, I decided to continue my education and attend law school. Upon graduation from law school, I was fortunate to begin a legal clerkship with the Attorney General's Office in the Child Support Enforcement Section. While working as a clerk, I assisted attorneys in preparing child support guidelines, performing research and other work needed for trial preparation.
When I was admitted to the Florida Bar, I accepted a position as Assistant Attorney General in the Child Support Enforcement Section. As an Assistant Attorney General I handled hundreds of child support cases. The court room experience that I gained through my work with the Attorney General's office has proved to be invaluable however, I saw that I could help more people in private practice and left the Attorney General's office.
Upon leaving the Attorney General's Office, I accepted an associate attorney position in a private law firm that dealt exclusively in family law issues. While there I developed a strong understanding of the various family law issues that exist beyond child support matters. I brought in new clients and handled a wide range of cases from uncontested dissolutions of marriage to highly emotional and complex dissolutions of marriage, modification proceedings, and enforcement proceedings.
In 2010, I joined with another attorney to expand into estate planning, probate and business law. I managed the family law section in the firm and assisted in estate planning, probate and business law matters. Then in 2013 I joined with my current partner and we created Bourlon & Lucas Law PLLC the next year.
At Bourlon & Lucas Law PLLC, I focus the majority of my practice on helping families reach resolutions to their family law needs through out of court negotiations and alternative dispute resolution methods. I am a Supreme Court Certified Family Law mediator and am very involved in the local collaborative divorce group, Next Generation Divorce. I have served on the board of Next Generation Divorce for several years and in 2016 became the co-chair of that organization and was reelected for another year term in 2017.
I look forward to helping people understand that the litigated divorce is not their only choice. Collaborative divorce, mediation and many other alternative dispute resolution methods can be used to provide clients with a more civilized and peaceful resolution to their marriage.
