Gary Brookmyer has practiced law for more than 35 years, representing plaintiffs, defendants, businesses and individuals in a broad range of practice areas. His areas of expertise include Divorce and Family Law; Commercial Litigation; Probate, Trusts and Estates Litigation; and Financial Services Industry-related Litigation and Arbitration. Born in Brooklyn, New York to first generation Americans, Gary is the youngest of three children. He majored in Political Science and was a cum laude graduate of the State University of New York at Albany. He earned his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in 1980 at the University of Miami, School of Law. While at UM, he was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta fraternity and was an Articles and Comments Editor for Lawyer of the Americas, UM Journal of International Law. Gary published an article in the journal relating to state rights to tax foreign commerce.
Gary was admitted to the Florida Bar in October of 1980. For the first twelve years of practice, he worked at two large Miami law firms, each having approximately 85 to 100 lawyers. He represented financial institutions, such as Southeast Bank and Standard Chartered Bank, in enforcing security interest liens, creditors’ and debtors’ rights, and dealing with complex loan documents, transactions and related business litigation.
In 1992, Gary founded his own practice in Coconut Grove, Florida. In 1996 he established a firm in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida with Elliot Hochman, J.D., C.P.A. They were joined shortly thereafter by Daniel J. Probst, J.D., L.L.M. Gary began to litigate probate, trusts and estates matters, such as claims of undue influence, incapacity and trust disputes. Brookmyer, Hochman & Probst, P.A. was recognized by Palm Beach Illustrated as one of Palm Beach & Martin County’s Top Lawyers in 2011. In 2012, the firm expanded by adding real estate and transactional lawyer Michael N. Jonas to the firm, which is now known as Brookmyer, Hochman, Probst & Jonas, P.A.
Gary and his wife, Un Cha Kim have been married for more than 20 years. They have two sons. In his free time, Gary enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and reading.
