Philip Freidin is a highly successful civil trial attorney who began practicing in his native hometown of Miami in 1969. He has obtained numerous million-dollar verdicts and settlements on behalf of his clients. He has litigated and tried more than 200 personal injury and wrongful death cases, including medical malpractice, and auto accidents. He has tried more than 150 jury trials to conclusion, approximately 50 more which were commenced, then settled.
He specializes in personal injury trial practice, medical malpractice, class actions and insurance bad faith claims. He has obtained scores of multimillion dollar settlements including 13 plaintiff personal injury verdicts in excess of seven figures, including what was believed to be at the time the largest verdict in history against Walt Disney World in Orlando and one of the highest personal injury verdicts ever obtained in the state of Maine.
In 1989, Phil earned Florida Bar Board Certification, the highest level of recognition by The Florida Bar, for the competency and experience of a civil trial attorney. He was designated a Board Certified Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocates in 1995-2008. Phil is profiled in The Best Lawyers in America, included in Martindale-Hubbell's Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers and is consistently recognized in the annual Florida Super Lawyers Magazine, Florida Trend's Legal Elite and the South Florida Legal Guide as one of Florida's top personal injury attorneys.
In the landmark case West v. Caterpillar, Phil helped establish Florida's doctrine of Strict Product Liability which now allows consumers to hold manufacturers and sellers of defective products liable without proof of negligence. This 1975 decision permanently changed Florida Law and is a major case of study in Florida Law Schools.
Phil received national coverage on Goode v. Walt Disney World. This landmark case solidified the responsibility that amusement parks have to their patrons to provide a safe environment. The case resulted in the highest jury award ever entered against any Disney park to that date.
A recognized expert in the law, Phil has lectured before hundreds of professional bar and trial organizations across the United States on personal injury trial tactics and strategy. He has been active in many legal and community organizations holding leadership positions. Most recently he was appointed to the Florida Supreme Court Task Force on Complex Litigation by the Chief Justice.
