Practice Areas

  • Discrimination 25% 34 Years

Board-certified in civil trial law, business litigation and labor-and-employment law, I have since 1985 represented hundreds of employees injured by decisions based on such criteria as gender, age, race, national origin or disability. Ferreting out and proving discrimination can require focused, persistent discovery, as well as sophisticated experts to use scientific evidence of stereotyping to expose discrimination masquerading as fair evaluations.

  • Employment and labor 25%

  • Litigation 20% 34 Years

Virtually everything The Amlong Firm does inovlves litigation -- suing over employment discrimination, defending a small business against a spurious wage-and-hour claim or taking someone to court for having cheated his partner in a business deal. We look at evey case coming through the door as one that will potentially wind up in front of a judge, jury or arbitrator. The way we resolve cases prior to going to trial is by having a reputation for being ready to go.

  • Sexual harassment 15% 34 Years

Sexual harassment is just another kind of discrimination. While sexual predators do exist, sexual harassment -- just as any type of harassment -- generally is a workplace bullies' using sexual-based talk and behavior to chase women out. Both types of sexual harassment are illegal. In Faragher v. City of Boca Raton, I convinced the U.S. Supreme Court to make businesses liable if they allow either one to happen.

  • Wrongful termination 15% 34 Years

Termination is called "the capital punishment of industrial jurisprudence." Wrongful termination can arise from discrimination, withholding of sexual favors, whistleblowing, or an arbitrary boss who just wants to be a bully. Statutes and "just cause" contracts protect workers, however, from what too many businesses think is unbridled "employment at will." I have reprsented scores of fired workers in court and before civil-service and arbitration hearings.
