Alaska Family Laws

The practice area of family law covers a wide range of issues ranging from marriage and divorce to domestic violence and child custody. Matters of family, particularly marriage and abortion, tend to vary quite a bit from one state to another. Alaska, for instance, requires at least 30 days of residency prior to having an abortion, which must be performed by a licensed M.D. The state is unique in its handling of marital property, being the only state that allows parties to agree on either community property or equitable distribution when getting divorced.
