Business formations and practices are regulated through a combination of federal and state laws, which place limits on mergers that hinder competition, protect natural resources, provide protections for consumers, and other such measures. Antitrust laws, intended to foster more competition by discouraging the formation of monopolies or other unfair business combinations, are enforced primarily at the federal level (since large companies are typically national or international in size). Iowa antitrust law, however, is typically only enforced where the federal government lacks jurisdiction or interest. Deceptive trade practice laws, meanwhile, prohibit such tactics as false advertising and automobile odometer tampering. Click on a link below to learn more about Iowa business laws.
