Hello - I would like to start a website in Platte County Nebraska to give the people a voice in regards to the local, county, and state police force. Certain local events have the citizens upset and we have no place to acquire redress of grievances except through the police force itself. I would like to start a public opinion website - this website would take polls about the local force and about their actions, perhaps certain laws and issues as well. This website would also build petitions for citizens to sign electronically to be submitted to the next highest authority. This is a very prelim overview of the project. Do the people have the right to complain aobut the police force via citizen-scripted petitions? Do we have the right to take polls about our police force and post the results in newspapers and on the internet? Can the people identify a police officer by name and say, for instance, rate his/her performance? How are the laws regarding this different for internet and print? Overall, what can I do and what can't I do?

What are the procedures, laws or rules for a national giveaway.

I want to promote my product and have decided that I will giveaway several prizes for customers that purchase any of our merchandise. Upon purchase of merchandise the customer will be entered into the giveaway and will receive a number for the drawing. Is this legal? Are there specific procedures, rules or laws that I need to follow and is it different for every state? Where can I find the legal language for the rules that protects myself and my client? We will use the internet to advertise the giveaway, are there internet laws that apply?

Nude video posted on website without permission

I made a video for my boyfriend and uploaded it on the photobucket website and gave him my password so he could see it. I deleted it from my photobucket. A year later, I saw it on a porn website. I don't know what I should do. Is there anything I can do about getting them off? Do I have a case?

Pirated software

I worked for a company in 2003 as a freelance animation technical director and later discovered that this company was using Pirated/Cracked software throughout the studio. During my tenure, I was asked to install said software onto newly built desktop computer systems unaware that I was installing Pirated software. I'm writing a letter to the owner, 4 years later to inform them that I intend to report them after I discovered that this company is making direct to video merchandise (DVD, books, etc.) for the Christian market. This is what sparked the resurrection of this issue. Can this letter be construed as embezzlement or blackmail? Other than reporting them, there's nothing threatening in the letter and I'm not asking for anything. Just summarizing details of what I witnessed.

Changing a photo

I was wondering if I download someones pictures to my computer (posted on their website) and change it and then upload it on to my website or a picture hosting site is that legal?

I registered a domain name

I am planning on building a website using the domain I purchased.

I did a search on the domain and found that the name has a trademark Abandonment Date -

two things:

1) Can I trademark this name since it currently is showing an abandoment date.

2)Since I have registered the dot com succesfully a few years back, will this cause any conflicts with the dot org and dot net registrants such as trademark and patent

Internet Harassment And Recording Of Chat Room Post

I guess I have more than 1 question.

1. If being harassed and slandered in a chat room and threaten with harm. What legal courses do i have to get thid to stop?

A bit of whats going on: For the last week this chatter has been saying untruthes about myself and other chatters, but the focuse of his anger is toward myself and 3 others. He has said in voice and posted it type that we are internet criminals and that we have stolen credit card numbers, hacking into computer systems to gather social security numbers, and are using malicious codeing. And its really starting to creep me out. This person has threatened my by saying''your going to pay I am comming to Kentucky to mow you down like a lawnmower''

2. Can I expect some amount of privacy while in a chat room and on the internet without everything I say or type being recorded ?

Same person records every little thing in the cat rooms and is saying that those recordings are going to bring his and the laws wrath down upon myself. He has posted personal information in this chat room like his name address and phone number. That is what creeps me out. And he gets mad when hes called. And I called courosdy got the best of my and I had to find out.

My idea for a website

I was thinking of a website that would provide information to the viewer from someone who would know a lot about the item in question. To obtain this information, I was thinking that I would mail a letter of request to obtain this info from someone who would be a very credible source. With this letter I would also attach a contract stating that they would know what they were getting into. My questions are 1) if this would be legal in this manner and 2) If I would be able to provide advertising on this website in order to make money? Thanks for your time.

Photos

I posted 2 photos on a friends website that I took of him. He did not pay for the photos or sign an agreement for the continued use of these photos. I no longer wish to have my photos posted on his site unless he pays for them. Can I remove these phots without having any legal issues. I am also the creator of the photos.

In my divorce, my ex-wife kept my personal computer and refused to give it to me. She told me she gave all my stuff away. 2 years later I find out she did a forensic search on the hard drive and is telling others what I had on my computer. Is there anything I can do about it.

Protecting a person's personal writings on a web site

am currently a member of a web based ''fan board''. This has been a great place for a long time but just recently some very unhappy issues have come to light. There has been missing monies from a donation(s) made through the site owner, as the site owner will not discuss the events with anyone.This web site is based in CA. The other and actually my point of this question is there is a section of the board dedicated to fan writing, stories and poetry etc. Since there has been a lot of dissension on said board, the owner has locked and ''archived''( or possibly deleted,although we doubt that at this time) many of the loudest dissenters works. She is refusing them access to their works. Can she legally hold on to someone else's work? Is there any way to make her release said works so the authors can either delete it and or copy their own original work. Many of the authors are worried she may use their work as her own as she has proved to be vindictive and has clearly defrauded many individuals on this site.

Use of my name on internet sites

I have a colleague who has found her name on ratemyteacher website. This site seems to be where students can rate their teachers subjectively. Though the posting is not bad she feels allowing juveniles to post about teachers could be defamatory and could cause her or other teachers professional issues. Is there a law that says she can demand her name removed from this site and not ever posted there again?
