As a result of IRS levies and a wage garnishment, when I arrived at Aaron Wernick’s office in January 2016, I had a meager $42 in the bank and a disposable monthly income of $1,500 per month (the legal maximum per IRS formulas/rules). The IRS and I were in a 5 year intense and unresolved 7 figure tax dispute. My accountant of 30 years could not get the matter resolved. The IRS wage garnishment forced me to file a Chapter 11 in order to once again access my income and to clean up a financial mess.
My background is accounting and financial services, yet I managed to screw things up - embarrassing. I also was a frequent consumer of legal services - both as a plaintiff and a defendant. I knew the key to a successful outcome would be to find the best attorney, within the best firm in the Southern District of Florida - an attorney who specializes in representing individual debtors, not large creditors…an attorney who is respected and trusted by the local judges in the Court hearing my case…an attorney who graduated from top shelf schools…an attorney with extensive knowledge, training and in court experience…an attorney who would listen to my concerns, returns phone calls and respond to email communications on a timely basis….an attorney who has answers when challenged by his client…an attorney who cares about not just his case filed, but about the individuals and families involved in the very complex Chapter 11 legal process….
That attorney in Southern District of Florida is Aaron Wernick
Guess how I knew Aaron was the best before I even met with him? I had a 2 hour meeting with 4 managers on the 44th floor of a top shelf Miami accounting firm (100 plus CPA’s) explaining my circumstances. At the end of the meeting one of the partners said: “We would love to represent you, but some of our big clients (creditors) would be very upset - you appear to owe them considerable sums of money. We are conflicted!” I thanked them for their time and then asked if they knew of a good individual debtor’s attorney. They replied: “Well we almost always win our cases, but there is this guy named Aaron Wernick with Furr & Cohen up in Boca Raton that is pretty good.” Pretty good?!!...That’s all I needed to hear!
Aaron and I worked together every week for 2 years on my case. He did a beyond outstanding job. Aaron definitely has all the positive characteristics outlined in the other reviews on this website. (I read them all). I would like to add what I believe to be one of Aaron’s best qualities (among many) is his ability to put himself into the other person’s shoes in a negotiation. By listening to and finding out what creates a win for the other side, Aaron manages client expectations and structures a reasonable win for both sides. Suggestion: Rather than asking a buddy who knows a lawyer (one who likely does not specialize in Chapter 11 filings), or performing endless google searches trying to find one, why not re-read what you just read and call Aaron Wernick!
Going to my first meeting apprehensive, nervous, scared and full of angst. From first hiring of Aaron Wernick to the final 'Order of Discharge' Arron kept me calm and focused on the 'job' ahead. Firm when necessary dealing with creditors. Always took the time to illustrate and interpret my responsibilities and commitments. A real winner in his field!
