I hired Mr. Johnson to address a problem with a commercial landlord and more specifically to send a notice to withhold rent until repairs were done. On the day of the initial consultation he requested the double of the amount of his retainer he had initially proposed to me stating that the best course of action was to file suit within a week from sending the notice for the other outstanding claims we had. While he copied the copy of the notice I proposed to him that same day (and received payment of the retainer), he did not do did not do anything on the case nor read or responded to any email or phone call to him since until two weeks later when I fired for a clear lack of diligence. He even refused to provide me with a copy of the notice or the retainer which he had promised to send to me by email.
He initially agreed to my termination and agreed to refund me a portion of the retainer claiming he would deduct 4 hours for his work. Upon my disagreement, (he had spent less than 2 hours which were clearly documented) he responded that until I agreed to such invoicing, he would continue to be on the clock and would charge me for his time arguing the issue with me. Further that he would not refund me the retainer until I was to agree to sign a settlement accepting the augmented billing and agreeing not to make any disparaging comment about him nor file a Florida Bar complaint against him now claiming 6 hours!
Further, he finally forwarded me the notice which was different from what we had agreed upon and stated to the opposite of my request that I wanted to vacate the premises.
This is an incompetent and unethical lawyer whom I do not recommend. I will be filing this coming Monday a complaint with the Florida Bar for his unethical practice, his lack of diligence and his questionable fee practice.
I won't never forget that terrible nightmare. Two years ago, I was his client and the above lawyer wrote the worst settlement somebody could write and mentioned to me that I should not hesitate to sign it. Since I am not a lawyer I signed it. That lawyer was not returning calls and emails for lack of time although he accepted to take the case. I never forced him to work for me. Consequently, I was forced to switch lawyers. Since the settlement was already signed, we lost the case with the second lawyer. I hired 'lawyer' Johnson to defend and protect me trying to save the case since I have all the evidence against my tenant. It was an eviction case and that lawyer never had the right time to explain to me the legal language and what he was or not doing since I was not familiar to court procedures. To meet the right person/professional in your life is even more difficult than to win the lottery. I won't recommend that lawyer to no none. Good luck selecting the right 'professional' one.
