I was dealing with some substantial penalties due to failure to file. I consulted with Darrin to determine if there were options to abate the penalties given my overall positive tax-paying history. He explained the difference between a first-time penalty abatement waiver and penalty relief due to reasonable cause. In my initial meeting, Darrin looked over my IRS notices and we had an honest dialogue about my circumstances and what I felt were factors that contributed to my late filing. He stepped me through the reasons that are most often deemed legitimate. He also cautioned me that I needed to build a solid case for how my circumstances influenced my failure to file on a timely basis.
