Divorce contempt resolution
About 2005 I researched attorneys to represent me on a contempt motion filed by my ex-wife. The attorney who was representong me at the time "run " the clock. She met with me and talked on the phone to the other attorney. She spent $3,000 in legal fees and I was still facing potential jail time. I had given money to my ex wife when the IRS was advancing tax checks in the middle of the year for each child. At the end of the year, the IRS deducted the full amount from my taxes. After informing the IRS that I gave my ex wife half of the advanced money based on the divorce decree and they should collect from her taxes, the IRS response was, "we gave it to you, we take it from you". After my ex-wife was shown that I had lost the money to the IRS from my taxes for her share, she said she would not return the money. I began withholding $20.00 per monthly child support check. She wanted to put me in jail for child support contempt. My previous attorney asked me to pay her all the money I had deducted from the Child Support and I did. My ex-wife's attorney still wanted to throw me in jail. I met Joe Registrato because I had researched his interactions with the Judge in question (whom I thought was not acting in accordance to the law). Mr. Registrato met with me and said : "This is not something that should be in court if you paid it. This is easy, and your attorney should have it dismissed." I explained about the $3,000.00 in legal fees, and I was still looking at jail time (for something I paid twice). Mr. Registrato stated he did not want to take my money for such a simple issue. I hired him, and when he entered the court room, i could see the respect of the judge towards Mr. Registrato. Also, right before he entered the courtroom he disarmed my ex-wife's attorney with a couple of questions and had the contempt dismissed in less than a minute. I would highly recommend Joseph Registrato as your attorney. I still have him on retainer in case I ever need an attorney. Thank you Mr. Registrato
