My professional information is available on my profile. I thought it would be nice for you to know who I am as a person too.
I was born and raised in Hollywood, Florida. As a graduate from Hollywood Hills High School, University of Florida, and Nova Law School, I know our community very well.
As a licensed attorney, I have been actively litigating cases since 1986, concentrating in personal injury law. I have tried cases in both State and Federal Courts and handled a broad range of negligence cases including automobile, product defects, food-borne toxins, premises cases and negligent security. I proudly serve as an AV Pre-eminent Martindale-Hubbell rated member of the Florida Bar.
I enjoy giving back to the community in my spare time. I served on the Board of the B’nai B’rith Apartments of Deerfield Beach, continue to serve as a Broward County Teen Court Judge for last 20 years, and I am proud to have been a coach for youth sports and a Boy Scout leader in our community.
I first became very active in the Parkland community when I joined the Parkland Friends of the Library in 1998. The library was still housed in a doublewide trailer at that time. I soon became the President of the Parkland Friends of the Library. In 1999, I appeared before the City Commission and encouraged them to build a new library for Parkland.
During the next four years, I served on the new Library Building Committee. I have devoted countless hours to that cause, leading the planning and preparation for the new library. I proudly coordinated the final move and shelved books from the old trailer to the new building with the help of some pretty amazing people. I was instrumental in improving the new library by acquisition of the plate glass window leading into the children’s area, the bronze sculpture on the lawn, and many other items for the new building.
On June 3, 2003, I had the privilege of leadding the Friends of the Parkland Library in the dedication and grand opening of the beautiful, new 13,200-square foot Parkland Library at its present location within the City Hall Complex. I helped the City cut the ribbon and open the doors, welcoming Parkland’s citizens to their new library.
In 2004, the Parkland Friends of the Library instituted the highly successful “Pave the Way to Reading” program to raise funds for the expansion of the patio area on the southeast side of the Library. The program was a huge success. On November 3, 2004, again as president of the Friends of the Library, I hosted the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the new outdoor library patio. The City Commission and Martin Kiar, a Florida State Representative at the time, proudly cut the ribbon with me. I continued to serve the Frieds of the Parkland Library in various officer capacities until 2016.
I have also led diverse community partnership programs with the Parkland Historical Society. On April 8, 2014, I came up with the idea and helped to sponsor a meeting with James Weiss, the local Parkland author of “The History of Parkland, Florida,” and several long-time Parkland residents. This highly educational event, attended by over 80 people, brought the history of Parkland to life.
I then became interested in discovering more about the “Holmberg” of Holmberg Road. After rigorous investigation and research, I presented “The Mystery of Holmberg Road: Solved” on October 14, 2014, attended by over 100 people. I was even lucky enough to track down John L. Holmberg’s granddaughters, who attended the event and were presented with proclamations by the city and Broward County.
I lead the Friends and the Parkland Historical Society by researching and recovering the artifacts taken from Parkland’s Margate Blount Archaeological Site. I personally tracked down photographs, artifacts and an extensive number of documents to secure Parkland’s archaeological history. Then I helped organize and build the Parkland Library's displays of those materials to bring the history of our city back to its citizens.
In 2016 I was elected to be a Parkland Commissioner for District 3 and last year served as the Vice Mayor for the City.
I am the proud of two amazing children and have been married to my incredible wife for over 30 years now. We recently celebrated the birth of a beautiful granddaughter.
