Hired Vanderlaan to help settle a 11.5 year old judgement . Spent 20 minutes on his office talking to him. I came with copies of all the pertinent information including old court records. He assured me that he could get my judgement down substantially . He then wrote a letter to the lawyers of the collection company. A month went buy with no correspondence from Vanderlaan. I finally received a letter from him basically copying what the collection company's response was. I had to beg for the original letter he had sent to the collection company. They wanted the full amount or they wanted two years tax returns, 2 months bank statements and 3 months pay stubs to decide if they would settle for less. I called to ask what the next step was . Did I need to meet with Vanderlaan again ? I left two messages and two texts with no response. Finally on the third call I got ahold of the secretary and she said he would call me back . He didn't but the secretary did , she stated that Vanderlaan said unless I provide all the information to the collection company or pay the full amount there was nothing more he could do . So he charge me $300 an hour of which he worked 20 minutes ( I'm sure the secretary typed the 2 letters) . But the worst part was the fact he absolutely did not help me and was not on my side AT ALL. I felt like he was working for the collection company even though I was the one that paid him. I sure hope other people will be very careful before they give this so called lawyer one penny. I feel like I would have gotten better use of $300 if I just donated it to a charity than give it to this crook . I don't suggest using this lawyer, don't trust him and don't think he will ever be on your side .
