Regina L. Wright graduated, with Honors, from the University of Florida in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. In 1991, she obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida College of Law. Regina L. Wright has been a member of The Florida Bar since 1991. Regina L. Wright began her career at the Public Defender’s Office in the Third Judicial Circuit. She was the first Black/African-American female lawyer to practice in the Lake City/Columbia County area. In 2003 she left Columbia County to work at the Public Defender’s Office in the Fourth Judicial Circuit/Jacksonville. Regina L. Wright has acquired a wealth of experience handling all matters criminal. She was assigned to the Juvenile Division and was a Division Chief there for three years. While assigned to the Juvenile Division she successfully represented juveniles accused of Battery, Aggravated Battery, Theft, Auto Theft, Armed Robbery, Carjacking, Sex offenses (Sexual Battery, Rape and Lewd and Lascivious Molestation), Shooting and Throwing Deadly Missiles and Burglary. Regina L. Wright also distinguished herself at the Public Defender’s Office while she was assigned to the Repeat Offender Court (ROC) in the Fourth Judicial Circuit. Cases assigned to Repeat Offender Court are the worst cases against Defendants with the worst records. While assigned to the Repeat Offender Court she represented Defendant’s accused of Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Attempted Murder, Trafficking, Burglary (Armed and Dwelling), Grand Theft, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault, Sale of Cocaine, Carjacking, Gun Crimes, and Fleeing and Eluding. While assigned to the Repeat Offender Court, Regina L. Wright had the best win/loss rate that had been achieved by any other Assistant Public Defender at the time. She was featured in the Metro section of the Florida Times-Union for this achievement. She was subsequently assigned to the Special Defense Division where she successfully defended Defendant’s accused of Sex Offenses (including Lewd and Lascivious Molestation, Capital Sexual Battery and Child Pornography), Arsons, and Attempted Murders. Regina L. Wright left the Public Defender’s Office in 2000 to work as an Associate with the international law firm of McGuireWoods, LLP. While employed at McGuireWoods, LLP, she practiced in the areas of Commercial Litigation, Federal Employee’s Liability Act (FELA), and Personal Injury Defense. Upon leaving McGuireWoods, LLP, she returned to the Public Defender’s Office. During her second stint at the Public Defender’s Office Regina L. Wright was assigned to Repeat Offender Court as a Felony Division Chief. She was also assigned to the Homicide Division. Regina L. Wright has a reputation as a skilled and knowledgeable attorney who fights for her clients. Regina Wright has handled thousands of Misdemeanor, Felony, and Juvenile cases. She has had numerous jury and nonjury trials. Regina L. Wright is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In the past she has served as the Parliamentarian and Chair of the Scholarship/MayWeek Committee for Delta Sigma Theta. She is a member of the Jacksonville Bar Association. She was Barrister for the Chester Bedell Inn of Court. She attends Mount Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where she is involved with the Sunshine Band Youth Ministry. Regina L. Wright is married to Terence Wright, a Jacksonville native. They have three children.
