My mother is in a nursing home, and her 100 days covered by Medicare will run out on August 23. She has very little money, and no assets. She is putting in an application to go on Medicaid. The nursing home says she owes the full "patient paid amount" for August as well as September, even though she was on Medicare for most of the month of August. Is this correct?

My husband is not a well individual and after being hospitalized, was sent to rehab recovery. My husband is not able to care for himself and since I'm 73 myself, I don't want the responsibility. Can I be free of his responsibility with a legal separation or do I need a divorce to be free?

My 77 year old mother who has medical problems but is of sound mind lost her husband approx 1 yr ago. There are 6 children and 2 of them had her sign some kind of paperwork which states that one has financial control and the other has medical power of attorney and both of them are at least 2 hours away if she gets ill and needs to go to the hospital. We cannot tell if what they have is 2 separate forms or a durable power of attorney. In the meantime another sibling has moved his family into her home to take care of her and they cannot make medical decisions. What kind of forms does she need to replace whatever existing forms ther are so that she can appoint the authority to the two sons that are taking care of her. She has no copies of what she signed and the other two children will not provide them. She needs something for her medical care, financial decisions, and a will. If she completes new forms will this cancel out any existing forms. These were not done through an attorney.

My husband and I have recently found out that his youngest brother and his soon to be exwife have committed what we perceive to be fraud. My husband's mother was coerced by these two individuals to sign over her home to them six years ago. The story we were told about this recently was that our mother was having financial difficulty and was told to sign over the property to them in order to avoid creditors who may seize the property away from her. The brother and the ex-wife all along knew the property was completely paid for. This transfer was done without the knowledge of other members of the family. We feel the reason this was really done now that they are separated and moving toward divorce was for their own financial gain as the property has been named by the sister-in-law as a bargaining chip in their separation agreement. My mother now has no home and we feel that this is criminal and could someone contact us concerning what we could do to pursue charges against them.
