I work for a local college and we would like to give a gift to the employers who work with us on a yearly basis. We were going to bake homemade cookies and deliver them. Is there a legal issue with this or is there something we should do to protect ourselves? I am thinking of allergy related issues right now. Or should we forget the whole idea?

late fee on landscape bill

We owe several hundred dollars to a landscape service, which we are paying off monthly by mutual agreement. Recently, the owner decided to begin charging 10.00 per month, PER LATE INVOICE, in addition to the 19% finance he already charges. Can he do that?! And are we obligated to pay it. At that rate, we will never get the balance paid, at the payment we can afford...not to mention that the balance we thought we were paying off and his now differ significantly. Help!

Dental Charges - Somthing isn't right?

One year ago, I went in for a toothache. The dentist looked at my teeth and said I need a crown and an overlay. I made an a new appt. Later that week, I lost my job and didn't dare go back because I lost dental insurance and income.

I subsequently get nasty bills in the mail stating that I owe $1,200 for two office visits. Followed by letters from attorneys until such a time as my checks were garnished. Still, only two dental visits, and one was a cleaning. Is this right?

Problems with Builder of our Deck

We had a deck built last year that failed inspection. Now we can not seem to get the builder to fix the problems. We have a contract and now we may have to tear the deck down.

mentally disabled and a contract

My daughter , who is mentally disabled got an e-mail from Crest Whitening. She sent it in thininking all she was getting was a free sample. When they kept coming she did not know what to do and just tucked them away. She has been getting charged almost 90 dollars a month and even though I have told them about her mental disabilities they are refusing to accept them back and refund her money. She is on SSI for her disabilities. The customer service has actiually been a little rude but so far I have been nice and just tried to explain the situation to them. Things have been put into place now so that she cannot do this again but for now I am searching for some advice on how to get them to take back the product and reimburse her the amout they have taken from her checking less the postage costs.

Small claims court

A jeweler custom made a ring for me. It has manufacturing defects with the gold and some of the diamonds have fallen out after only 4-5 months of wearing. The jeweler has offered to ''fix'' it although he refuses to take any blame for the problems. He also said it should be settled in court and gave me his lawyer's name. I had the ring analyzed by an expert gemologist/insurance adjuster in Texas who has photographed the defects and said it is a total loss and uninsurable. If I go to small claims court without a lawyer and he has one, will he walk all over me? I cannot afford a lawyer at $250 an hour. Will the written report alone be admissable? Can the expert testify by phone? I found a local expert who will testify to the same thing starting at $700, and I honestly cannot afford this. The ring was about $3,000. The State's Attorney's Consumer Protection agency could not do anything for me. Every jeweler I've shown the ring to agrees that it is bad. Even if I win in small claims court, can I collect? Any recommendations for me? Thanks so much for your help!

Verbal commitement for Fuel Delivery

Fuel Comapny for oil on Sep 10,08. Received in mail 4 incentive and better deals plus price has been lowered. Told company that I was not pleased and wanted to speak to management. On Oct 20 saw truck and stopped the delivery but they already pumped 15 gal. I have no written contract and was never told about a time to cancel.

Soy Product Absurdity

I am a college freshman who has been recently devastated with news I have uncovered about soy in the United States. About two or three years ago I made the switch over to soymilk in an attempt to become healthier. I was also on a soy formula when I was an infant. I\In doing research for a paper however I have discoered that soy products are extremely unhealthy and can lead to breast cancer and thyroid disease/cancer. I then researched thyroid disease to see if it has matched recent personality changes I have experienced since I have switched to soy milk. The depression, fatigue, mood swings, and inexplicted weight gain all fit. If I see a doctor and find out that I in fact have thyroid disease, would I be able to sue a soymilk company such as Silk for misleading consumers about the benefits of soy, and not informing people of the risks? I am extremely upset that, even though I am extremely health concious, soy products may have led my body to an unhealthy state over which I have no control, and would like compensation as well as an end to the publicity of soy's 'health benefits'. People should really know how much risk they are putting themselves in, while thinking they are making the healthier choice. Thank you for your help!
