rights of recording faculty on school grounds

is it against the law to audio and/or video record faculty (ex. athletic director, athletic trainer, coaches, and/or teachers) that work in a community college, with out their knowledge?

Re: rights of recording faculty on school grounds

This depends very much on whether the filming/recording occurred in a public place, where there was not a reasonable expectation of privacy, or somewhere that would be considered "private". Obviously, it also depends on who did the recording and for what purpose. If it was evidence gathering by administration for disciplinary purposes or tenure/dismissal, then a collective agreement may govern. Please indicate where this occurred in California. Is this K-12, post-secondary, etc.?
