I recently, found out that a civil judgement has been placed against me. I wasn't aware that there was a court hearing scheduled?
If this is a judgment of any size (and to protect your credit) you will likely need to file a motion. There are specific requirements for the motion and its beyond the ability for most people to represent themselves. You are better off to have an attorney handle it to ensure the best possible result. Also, the clock is ticking as passage of time starts to weigh heavily against you. The likelihood of whether the motion would be successful is something you should discuss with an attorney. As mentioned in prior answers, the situation is complicated at this point by covid-19 lockdowns. Most courts have electronic filing available and some deadlines are extended but these are specific to each county and subject to change as the situation is unfolding.
You don't want to "squash" (you mean "quash") a judgment. You presumably need a motion made under CCP section 473 to vacate the judgment, and as noted, paralegals aren't qualified or legally able to do this.
You need to hire a lawyer to help, to review the circumstances of this judgment, and prepare the appropriate documents. If your local courts are closed for the pandemic, they'll need to do with the lack of court access til things change.
First, there is no such thing as what you are asking. Paralegals cannot practice law. Paralegals can draft papers under the direction and supervision of an attorney.
Secondly, if you want to find a lawyer use the "find a lawyer" page on this site. This forum is the legal question and answer forum, for asking and answering legal questions. Attorneys cannot solicit or refer business in their responses on this forum.
AVVO isn't really a forum in which to solicit bids for legal work you might have. I agree with Mr. Doland's remarks regarding paralegals. That said, you should consult an attorney regarding potential defenses to the judgment, as only a lawyer can really evaluate that for you.
Non-lawyers are authorized in California to prepare legal documents if properly registered as a legal document assistant. Paralegals acting under the supervision of a lawyer need not register, but those working independently must. So, ... ask for the registration certificate (or supervising lawyer letter) or the individual soliciting your business is committing "unauthorized practice of law".
Rented a room in house, signed month to month, now late on rent
I have a situation where I let a person move into my residence to rent a room, they signed a month to month agreement, and this month have not paid rent. What do I need to do to next to evict them from the property.
Good morning. My landlord has given me a sixty day notice to vacate.
The reason is; he selling the Townhome I currently live in. I've lived here 6 years.
The property manager is consistently calling and bothering me to list the house, to have an open house. What are my rights? I also have an illness I'm trying to work around, there are days I get out of bed.. it's there right to sell... I need time!!
