My father died and his possessions and legal documents are in the home of his wife, who died 9 days later. Her family will not return calls or text messages, so we are unable to retrieve his things. They kept their trusts separate, but his wife was the Trustee of his Trust for those 9 days. We will also need to get a copy of her death certificate as my sister and I are now Co-Successor Trustees and beneficiaries of his trust and estate. Do we have any legal recourse to get her family to communicate with us and provide access?

You may need to have a lawyer write to the appropriate member of your mother-in-law's family to obtain their cooperation. If necessary, court action can be commenced to obtain whatever belonged to the trust. Without knowing the trust's assets, however, it is not possible to tell you whether that type of action would be worth the expense.
