Existing Characters used outside of the advertiser

hi there. What is the law regarding using characters originally created by an ad agency for TV commercials in a new TV show? the characters would be purposefully recognizable as the original commercial characters but would be placed in a TV series that also has commercial ties to that advertiser.

I am working with a designer, who is creating a website for my personal coaching practice (which is an LLC). On the website's ''contact us'' page, I ask interested viewers to provide their name, email address, and phone # (optional) if they would like further information from me. I do not have e-commerce on the site, and do not sell any products or collect credit card information. I would like to make sure that at the bottom of each page of my website, I include the correct legal information. My 1st question is: Is a privacy policy at the bottom of each page necessary? 2nd question: If so, is it in my best interest to buy a written privacy policy from ''findlegalformsdotcom''? I found you through ''findlegalformsdotcom'' and don't know how reputable they are. Last question: Do I need any other type of documentation on my site other than a privacy policy (such as a terms of use agreement, etc)?

No non compete agreement in place

As a student and recently after graduation I worked with a friend in a start up business. While employed, I handled almost every facet of the business, sales, manufacturing products, product design , customer service and warranty work etc. The relationship has gone south and I am contemplating starting up a similar business using the web to reach potential customers. I did not sign a NDA nor a non compete agreement. Will I face any liability if I go into direct competition with my previous employer? Many of the products I will be selling or easily available to anyone to resell. Some products are custom manufactured ( no patent) and I have located separate and different manufacturers to make the products and provided my own measurements and designs.

Renting a patent

Is there a such thing as renting a patent or is that the same as licensing? And can you license to one company for x amount of years and then another company for x amount of years?

first amendment right to publish personal and objectionable matter

I recently allowed an author to interview me for a book about a personal issue that shed a very poor light on a member of my family. I asked that my name not be used, but she did not readily agree. If she does publish the material it could violate privacy and hurt others. Does she have the right to do that under the first amendment. Do I have any recourse to stop her? Is this such a thing as an implied right to publish when one is interviewed, or do I have the right to sue her if she publishes because she will hurt me and others?

How would i legally word asking permission to use someones (non-published) written work (as i see fit) in my own work to eventually be published and not have them legally come after me for any profits Ive made or for plagiarism?

transfer of ownership

i made an agreement with someone i know to buy a jet ski for a $1000 dollars, so i wrote her a check for $500 of that at the time and agreed to pay the other $500 when she completes the registration and gets the paperwork in order since it had not been registered since 2005. i later found out that she aquired the ski in her divorce settlement so its still in her ex-husbands name and he never finished paying off the loan from when he bought it new in 1992 from kawasaki. DMV says that in order to get a fresh title for it they require a release from the lending company he financed it through. but they arent in buisness anymore. What legal paths can i take to (A) get my money back? or (B)complete the transfer of ownership to me? Do i go after the ex-husband since its in his name or do i go after her?

Confidentiality agreement

When I started working for my employer,on my first day, prior to begining work, in front of other employees I was asked to sing a confedintality agreement.

The agreement stated that I would not disclose company practices to others, and that I would not work for or start a similar business within a 500 mile radis.I told them that it was a bit unfair not to be unable to work for a similar company, so they removed that part.

I felt pressured into making the agreement, but now want to do what the agreement stated I would not...start a similar business, although using none of their proceses.

If my girlfriend (soon to be wife,whom I live with) starts the business, am I in breach of the agreement.

The business is a small service company and I am based in a different county from my employers.

Copying Music CDs

Greeting!

I teach music and performance, and need to clarify a situation for my students. We have a few different interpretatons of the law, and need it stated in plain words we can understand.

Situation:

Several people wanted to buy CDs at a performance. One of them bought one CD and told the others not to, as he would make copies for all 20 of them, and just give them the copies so they would not have to buy the CD.

I feel that this violates copyright law as providing ''indirect commercial benefit.''

I am told that it does NOT violate copyright law, that he is perfectly within his rights, and such copies are totally legal.

If that is the case, what good is copyrighting your CD?

So, the question:

Is copying the CD in this case legal or illegal?

I212 was approved on late March 2007. Never received anything from USCI. When call they said document was destroyed because they could not find us. Now I filled I824 since July. How long before they will send the document again to the embassy. Thanks
