disability or unemployment?
I am pregnant and have great difficulty walking. I can barely walk at all, and my doctor will sign disability paperwork at any time. Today, we got word that our entire office is closing and we are all laid off as of Jan 2. Which is better to collect -- disability or unemployment? I am not greedy; I am fearful of not having enough money for diapers. It is nearly impossible to reach anyone at either dept by phone who knows anything.......
Re: disability or unemployment?
Simply put, unemployment is more money and less hassle than disability.
If you had health insurance through your job, ask about COBRA coverage. If not, and you don't have a spouse with health insurance, there is a state program called Healthy Families that will provide health insurance to you and your baby at reduced rates.
There is also a program called WIC that gives pregnant women vast amounts of milk, cheese, and cereal for free with very few strings attached.
If the baby's father is not providing you with money or health insurance, contact the county about starting a child support case, and also about other programs such as TANF and food stamps.
