I just signed a lease for a rental home. In our lease it says we must get written permission to paint or make any repairs/changes to the home. We wanted paint the walls colors to kind of make the place our own. My father-in-law is a professional painter and home restorer. If we paint the walls back to white professionally before leaving the property, can we do it without written consent and will this effect our deposit later?

Thanks.

No, the lease language you refer to is very clear. You need to get permission. Most landlords wil not object to reasonable hues. But if you paint one wall dark red it might takes a lot of coats to get it back to while. If you paint without consent, how does the landlord know that you wlil repaint it when you leave?
