parent with alzheimer's

My father has been diagnosed with alzheimer's. My mother is a cancer survivor and they both are on social security. My dad collects about $1,000 and my mom about $400. They have a savings of about $45,00 from which they draw about $700 per month to maintain bills and living expenses. My mother is worried about being able to care for him as he is steadily getting worse. She fears that if he has to go into a care situation that she will be stripped of her social security and possibly loose her mobile home. She could not live on her $400 alone. What is she allowed to keep and what much be turned over to the government in the worst case senario.

Re: parent with alzheimer's

You mother needs to sit down with an elder law attorney and go over a very specific plan. Based on the information you provided, it seems she will be okay. Have her call an elder law attorney in her area.
