Retaining Files
How long should I keep the following records: Personnel files, payroll, workers' compensation reports, fleet, accounts payable, accounts receivable and contract files.

The general rule of thumb is 7 years. After that, most records are not that important although I would keep items likes deeds, paid notes and mortages, and the like indefinitely - or at least until the property has been sold.
