School Zoning

The school we are zoned for is failing miserably with a 15% math score average. I am told that their are no exceptions to take my child out of district even though his grandmother is his babysitter and lives in a different district. I am shocked that i am being forced to send my child to a school that is so acedimically behind. Is their any legislation out there to protect us? or am i forced to send my child to a school failing in every subject?

Re: School Zoning

Under the federal No Child Left Behind Act, if your child's school is a "chronically failing school" you child may be able to transfer to a better performing school. I suggest asking your school's principal your school's status and whether it is a "chronically failing school" under No Child Left Behind. A school would have to fail to meet federal standards for several years before it would be considered "chronically failing" so as to permit a child attending that schoool to transfer to another school.
