Theft
While my husband and I were staying at a hotel in Florida we had $120 stolen out of my purse that was left in the hotel room. That morning before we left, we specifically told the maid we did not wish to have room service and we signed off on it. We also turned on a red light outside of the room which signified we did not want to be disturbed. After we returned to the room several hours later, we saw the money had been stolen. We spoke with security about the matter and were told they would investigate and get back in contact with us. When I called them several days ago I was told the suspect had been caught. We were one of six rooms he had stolen from. I was informed he was a contractor for the hotel. The man confessed, but said he no longer had the money he had taken. My question is whether or not we have any legal recourse to get the money back. Should we press charges against him? Is the hotel liable at all for the money since he was working for them? Any advice on the matter is appreciated. Thanks!
Re: Theft
You may get the money as part of the criminal case otherwise filing a claim would cost more than 120.
