What is a Mediator?

What is a Mediator and what do they do?

Can a Mediator represent me at a mediation conference or meeting?

What do mediators usually/approx. charge? per hour? per session?

Can a mediator help me negociate a better settlement, in for example a credit card debt situation?

A mediator is a neutral person who will listen to both sides, ask questions, and then try to facilitate a settlement. He cannot force or require either side to settle.

No.

What do mediators usually/approx. charge? per hour? per session?

It varies by mediator, by location, by type of case, and by the number of parties at the mediation. Generally, $150 to $400 per hour, divided among the partise equally.

The mediator does not negotiate, but he does speak to both sides to try to facilitate their effort to reach a settlement agreement.
