Can a college or university sue a student who cheats for trying to get a degree with fraudulent practices?

I don't believe so. (At least I've never heard of it happening.) However, a university can deny a student both the degree and course credits. They would simply need to refuse to provide a transcript or fail to certify granting of a degree. They might seek an injunction to stop this student from false misrepresenting his status as a graduate.
