He was with me from ages 16-20. It took me a long time to realize what happened wasnt ok. It might be too late. But I guess Im curious what my options are if there are any options.
Its very tragic to hear your story. You need to contact an experienced PI attorney that specializes in Sexual Abuse and Molestation cases. There is a new law that was recently approved in October by the Governor. It is AB 218 which basically extends the Statute of Limitations up to the age of 40. However, because details and evidence is extremely important, it is important to report all the details to the police department. Speak to an experienced attorney right away. Good Luck.
It's not too late but you should contact an attorney who has experience in these type of cases. The law was recently changed allowing more time for victims like you but that doesn't mean you should wait. We handle these types of cases and from my experience it's important to get all the facts in order to move forward effectively. You should sit down with an attorney and go over everything you can remember especially the beginning of the relationship since you were 16 and it was illegal for your coach to have that kind of a relationship with you. good luck to you and act quickly
This was both a crime and a personal wrong, known as a tort, committed by this person. It would be wise for you to seek out confidential counsel from an attorney who is very familiar with this kind of matter to assist you coordinate your efforts. Move quickly. There are time limits for making such claims.
Good luck to you.
It's not too late. Go to the police first. You are the victim of statutory rape. Contact a therapist or a crisis hotline to seek help without your feelings. You are within the statute of limitations for a civil claim against your coach and the high school. The high school can be liable for the actions of the coach if it knew or had reason to know that he was a danger to you based upon knowledge of prior victims and/or knowledge of inappropriate conduct with you. Contact an attorney experienced in sexual molestation cases. Not every PI attorney is qualified to handle these claims.
