I am glad that you are taking care with this choice. Picking a patent attorney is different than some other limited tasks like buying a house. You need someone with the right legal skills and the right technical knowledge. You also need someone that you can work with as an external team member as it is an iterative process and the relationship extends for years.
I suggest that you look at some of the work done by a patent attorney. For example, some of my work can be found here. http://bit.ly/Patent_Examples
You can also do some preliminary patent searches in your general field. For tips on patent searching -- see http://bit.ly/Patent_Searching .
NOTE -- you normally cannot hire someone who writes patents in the precise field that you have improved as that person may be prevented by conflict rules from taking on a new client that would be seeking patents in the precise field of an existing client.
Another way to find a good patent attorney is to contact the advisors in the state agency in your state that is the local version of the Small Business Development Center. This is funded to help small companies bloom and grow. They often know local patent attorneys that work well with entrepreneurs. (Many patent attorneys prefer to limit their work to working with universities or large established companies. In North Carolina that agency is http://www.sbtdc.org/ .
Finally, you can seek help from a patent attorney located outside of your state if you are hiring the patent attorney to prepare and file patent applications as that task is regulated by the US government not a local state bar.

grand larceny and burglarious tool
Hi, I recently bailed out two friends from jail, who stole a lot of merchandise from a large department store. The total was way above the 200 dollar border line set in Virginia. The grand larceny charge was for items stolen and the other charge was for a razor blade found in one a purse. I don't think the friend used it, but they charged them anyway. Also she has told me that her lawyer put in a plea bargain and it was denied. My questions are why would a plea bargain ever be denied and can it be denied? What are they facing in terms of charges? They also told me they are both being tried together. Does that have an affect on the verdict? And this is there first offense, so what are they looking at in terms of punishment? I hear VA is one of the hardest states when it comes to punishing the convicted. I feel as if they have no fighting chance. They stole and concealed expensive merchandise from a very large department store. I just would like to know if they have a fighting chance and be more informed on the process. And finally does the rejection of the plea bargain mean that the prosecution will seek a very harsh punishment?
Attorney's Fee's
Is it normal practice for an attorney to base her fee on a percentage of the estates value. She has done both probate work and quite a bit of estate liquidation services.
motion to supress
I had a criminal court case. My public defender asked for a motion to suppress. The judge granted this motion. THEN, the case was dismissed because the D.A. did not get my case to trial in time, according to my civil rights, etc. Now six months later, the D.A. has filed a complaint against me, and I must go to court on the same case. My question is; Does the motion to suppress, which was granted by the judge in the last court hearing, still count? Is this motion going to still be held legally binding? Because, if the motion is still in effect , the D.A. can not use the evidence that was orderd suppressed, right? thank you.
I went to martinsville hospital for a pressure sore and told them i had no insurance. They told me to bring between 60 to 100 dollars. I went in and paid 60 and the took me back and told me it wasnt infected so they rebandaged it and gave me a few bandages to take home with me. A week later martinsville sent me a bill for 1001 dollars and told me the wound care clinic wasnt part of martinsville hosp. So the wound clinic sends me another bill a week or so after that charging me another 80 for the visit. Now Martinsville has sent me a court date for march. Do you think i should get a lawyer to fight this or do you think im just stuck with the bill.
Thanks, Tim
